I was hoping I could reset their local password, so they could log in to their account, and VPN in with their account, and resynchronize with the new password I can change on the domain side.
Ahhh, possible work around for this. Once they're logged into the machine, create the VPN connection to the domain and login to it using the domain user credentials. That as far as I can work out will update the local cached copy of the domain login details for that user, so they should then be able to log out of the local user, and login to their domain account using the new login password.
Ah okay really good to know! We use software to VPN called juniper network connect. I'll try to log in, then download this software, then hopefully resync. The problem is, after this account is created I can't seem to actually log in to windows with it.
I get an error message which basically says because this new account can't authenticate with the domain, and it won't be allowed to log in. I see what you're saying. I didn't even realize that I was trying to log into the domain when I was trying to log in to windows.
And I can create that account in safe mode at the command prompt. Thank you so much again Keith!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
